Music Spotlight: Who Is Marshmello?
WHO IS MARSHMELLO?
"No one cared who I was until I put on the mask"....errr helmet?....light box thing? Forget it.
Marshmello has become on of these over night sensations in the dance music scene that it has everyone asking, "who is behind the mask / helmet / light box thing?"
No, it's not Martin Garrix.
No, it's not Tiesto (despite that stunt at Electric Daisy Carnival).
To be honest, it could be Hilary Clinton behind that thing and it wouldn't make a difference to me as long as Marshmello keeps producing these incredible dance tracks.
Correction. I retract that statement. If it was Hil-Dog behind all of this that would be incredible. Following up on that, it's not like we have seen Clinton and Marshmello in the same room at the same time. Have we?
Running for president by day, producing trap tracks at night. The American Dream.
Marshmello's meteroic rise and collaborations / support from major artists in the scene such as Skrillex and Martin Garrix has many thinking that this may be a big-time artists side project. His remix of Jack Ü’s “Where Are Ü Now” was chosen as an official remix by the group despite coming from relative obscurity. Skrillex himself then chose “FinD Me” to be a part his exclusive "Selects" series. Ah, the theories are piling up.
Skrillex might just be the ultimate music mentor and be helping out an up and comer in the industry but there just seems to be too many factors here. As stated by Daniel Cha at YourEDM, Marshmello is represented by the same manager as Jayz, Sikdope and Dotcom - Moe Shalzi. Coincedently, when the producer was just getting his start on social media with a few thousand followers these three producers were already some of his more prominent followers with their tens of thousands of followers. This has some thinking, is Marshmello a side project of one of the aforementioned producers? The connections are there with a reputable manager and popularity within the dance music space - it might be just crazy enough to work.
Or is this just support from Marshmello's management partners? Is it support for just being an awesome up and comer and these respected names want to help him get his feet off the ground? This could very well just be the case.
At the end of the day, I'm loving all of these theories coming out about who this artist actually is. Some of them are getting borderline illuminati esque but I can't help but read them.
Is he an up and comer that just had a meteoric rise?
Or is he an established artist's side project?
